Rebek Lalruatdiki Khiangte Co-Founder & Director

Rebek completed Master of Social Work (MSW) at Bosco Institue, Jorhat in 2013. She worked at Cod Nerc, an NGO based in Aizawl for a year and then joined Bosco Institute’s DKA-KFB Support. She then left her job at Bosco Institute in September, 2016 with a dream and determination to contribute full time in FLAT and initiate a new project called ‘KA THIANTE IN’( My Friend’s Place)- a hangout zone for young people.

She holds a firm conviction on transforming society by transforming self. She believes that self discovery, self-exploration and self –expressions are important mechanisms for human development and to create a better society. With the beliefs and values she holds along with other people who shares the same beliefs, values and vision, she is now working earnestly to co-create a safe space for and with young people to express, explore and discover and in turn contribute to society.

I felt suffocated growing up in a highly structured and regimented social environment in Mizoram. I felt frustrated at being ‘talked down to’ and hardly ever listened to. All norms were set and sacred – there could be no deviation unless you were ready to be labeled ‘bad’. I could sense similar frustration and helplessness in my peers. Young people are told what to do and are often used as means to achieve ends than respected as individuals with their own thoughts and aspirations. I and my friend were lucky to experience the “thrill of freedom” and the power of self_expression when I did MSW in Bosco Institute, Jorhat – a space that helps young people find themselves and discover their passion. This experience resuIted in the founding of Full Life Access Trust (FLAT) and Ka Thiante In (My Friend’s Place) in Mizoram to create safe spaces for young people to be themselves and to connect with their environment.

She always have the passion to work with youth and children in Mizoram ever since she started studying SW. But then, things did not go according to her plans due to different circumstances. She happened to meet Rebek during her masters who also has the same burning passion to work with youth and children in helping them discover self and working towards contributing to the society.
K.Zothanpuii has a firm belief that through FLAT, we can all work towards co-creating a safe space to explore and express self with young people and build a better society out of it. She also beliefs that every person’s life is  a story and it all depends on how we want to create and it is not a just a story where any adult, society or religion cancan control over it. It fully depends on us on how we want to make use of the things that we have experienced and how we can contribute to the society.

I was a very confused young girl, not knowing what to do with my life. I have studied and drop out of colleges many times, I was like a rudderless vessel that just flow where the wind blows till I landed up at Bosco Institute Jorhat. There I was look as individual and I feel visible. Through the ‘Get Real’ workshop I discover myself andmy purpose in life. There are many young people just like former me, who live their lives aimlessly. I love to encourage and show them there is more to life than this when they’d start to express , explore and discover themselves.
